Vanda took Wilom immediately to the little run-down shack where the people from the tunnels were currently living. It was larger than Wilom had expected – he had expected a decrepit farm house, but this actually seemed to be an old barn or storehouse. Through the window, he could see fluttering fabric. A makeshift curtain. Continue reading “Breaking News”
Video Games and the Final Third Problem
I’ve been playing some video games recently. Mostly they’ve been online games (since I actually have a group I like to play with now, I’ve been playing an MMO, which I thought I’d never actually do), but I’ve been diving back into one of the games that has given me a lot of joy over the years: The Bioshock series. Naming the New Year – 2018
I’m back from hiatus, everyone! And since I am, it’s time for me to start with a tradition that I’ve kept for two years now. Continue reading “Naming the New Year – 2018”
Mistakes Were Made
It seems apt that the chapter for The Ferryman’s Apprentice posted today was ‘Mistakes’ because I just made one.
My grasp on the days of the week has been shaky at best for many years now, and after misreading the date yesterday I decided that today was obviously Monday (hint: For those keeping up with Australian time, it is in fact Friday today) and that I should get that chapter up ASAP before I forgot.
So the hiatus was broken a few days early. I’ve decided that this is just going to be A Thing That Happened. Chapter 27 will still go up this Monday as originally planned. Consider the accidental chapter an extremely belated new year’s gift or something.
See you all in the next post!
Mistakes
Vanda dragged Wilom by the hand, a little faster than probably necessary. Wilom had to jog to keep up, feeling the blood pulsing in his fingertips from her grip. Continue reading “Mistakes”
New Podcast Episode!
Alright, I’m technically on hiatus, but I should share this and I’m currently not able to get onto Twitter easily.
The Great Charity Box Swindle!
The second part of this came out today, but I thought I’d link from the first one. Blades in the Dark is a somewhat Cthulhu-inspired Victorian tabletop RPG from John Harper, where we play a cult desperately trying to improve their public relations.
This was honestly one of my favourite sessions to play (not least because I got to diplomacy-wizard my way through things) so I recommend you check it out!
Warning as always: We’re not a PG group, and there will be cussin’ and some anatomy-based jokes to go with my standard puns and pompous wordplay.
Hiatus Announcement
Hi all
You may have noticed that I haven’t been up to date recently with posting The Ferryman’s Apprentice chapters. This is both entirely fault and the result of several external life-related factors over the past couple of months.
In light of this, I’d like to announce that the blog is going on a brief hiatus. I’m currently writing this on a cross-country train to go and see my family for the holidays, so it seems apropos to start the hiatus now.
’ll be back in the saddle in a few weeks, though, or at least, I intend to be. Expect normal Ferryman’s chapters to resume on Monday 15th of January, and normal blog posts to resume on the Wednesday 17th.
Thanks for being patient with me! Hope everyone has a great time while I’m away, and I look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year.
Author Voice vs Character Voice
And we’re back to my bread and butter – getting uppity about writercraft. Continue reading “Author Voice vs Character Voice”
Top Ten Hardest Writing Things — and NaNo Debrief
I’m going to start this post with a little personal update. I said at the beginning of this NaNo that I was going to go for a stretch goal, but wouldn’t be disappointed if I didn’t quite make it. Continue reading “Top Ten Hardest Writing Things — and NaNo Debrief”
Incitement
The morning passed quietly. Wilom once again had the house to himself, and he put off leaving the kitchen bench and the cup of coffee Marc made for him for as long as possible. When he finally worked up the energy to leave the house, he found that Vanda was waiting for him. Continue reading “Incitement”
