I’m back from hiatus, everyone! And since I am, it’s time for me to start with a tradition that I’ve kept for two years now.

For those new to the blog, I’m a New Year’s Resolution sceptic. But I also like to have goals and there is just something about the New Year that makes the 12 months that follow seem like a blank slate full of wonder and opportunity (even if realistically I’m just carrying through all the same things I did last year but with a different number at the end of the date).

One of my favourite pieces of writing/life advice is Neil Gaiman’s ‘mountain’ theory. In short, if you don’t know what to do next, look for your mountain (ultimate goal) and work towards it.

All this is just a wordy way to say that I no longer make New Year’s Resolutions, I make year themes. The principle is the same – if I find myself unsure what to do next, I ask what would fit with the theme, and go towards the mountain.

So without further ado, this year is the year of Upgrades. This year I want to do what I did last year, but better, faster, and with more money.

Anyway, the hiatus is over, I’ll hopefully be a bit more on top of things now. Hope everyone had a great combination of holidays over the last few months (whatever that combination happens to be). Let’s get a good start to this year!
