Who Are Whimsy and Metaphor?

Whimsy and Metaphor is a collaborative storytelling and publishing project, but we prefer to call ourselves “Purveyors of Fine Falsehoods”.

We started off self-publishing our writing, but our interests have expanded, and we’ve moved out into game design and events. We discovered a shared love of getting a bit weird and experimental with mediums and techniques.

At the moment, we’re working pretty slowly on this side of things, because one of us (the Whimsy half) is working on a PhD in game design (specifically ARG design and urban play), but we hope to hit the ground running in 2027.

In general, the one making public appearances (in person and on video) is Whimsy, AKA Vee, who has also published under the name Lee Cope – it is the better public speaker and takes care of the tasks that require direct interaction.

Current and Upcoming Projects

Two lines of partially-transparent archaeological artefacts of various kinds, including statues, tools, and a board game. The text, "Eurymachia" is superimposed over them in an all-caps, blocky font.

Come check out Vee’s PhD project! The Museum of Lost Cities is a virtual museum that is running an exhibition on a new dig site on an island off the coast of modern-day Greece. The archaeologist the Museum has partnered with, Dr Simons, thinks this site will reveal new information about the timeline of the Bronze Age Aegean collapse in the late 11th Century BCE. Join the other players on the Museum’s Discord in discussing the artefacts, figure out their stories, and decide if you agree with Dr Simons about the site and its importance.

Blue screen with white text that reads "Whimsy and Metaphor Write-Along Club". "Whimsy and Metaphor" is on a jaunty angle and is written in a cursive font. There is a green Whimsy and Metaphor logo in the top corner.

The Whimsy and Metaphor Write-Along Club is a video series about the process of writing. Vee steps through how it writes and thinks about stories and writes a novella entirely on camera, including coming up with the idea, outlining, drafting, and all stages of editing. Viewers are welcome to write along and test the process alongside the videos, including writing their version of the same story if it helps to compare and contrast!

Projects with Codenames

We refer to projects too early in the process to properly announce with acronyms or codenames.

Currently, all of these projects should be assumed to be on hiatus until January 2027.

DR: The next serial story, which will be published on the website.

SC: The next standalone novel.

3B: The next short story/zine project.

TPWLL, RTT and 5xG: Some experimental projects still in their early stages.
